Why book this day
Everything you would otherwise have to arrange yourself
The bullet-train ticket is already in your hand
On the Osaka and Kyoto plans, staff meet you at the departure station with your round-trip shinkansen ticket and help you board (they don't ride the train with you), so you don't have to work out a JR ticket machine and fare table yourself.
A guide walks Peace Park with you
An English-speaking guide leads the group through the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park, and entry to the Peace Memorial Museum is included in the booking. An optional multilingual audio guide works on the bus only; bring your own smartphone and earphones.
Lunch is one less decision on a long day
A Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki lunch — the layered pork, cabbage, noodle and egg version the city is known for, with a stated option for other diets — is included, so you are not hunting for a table on a schedule.
The ferry and the shrine are the same ticket
Round-trip Miyajima ferry tickets and Itsukushima Shrine entry are both included in the booking, so you don't have to work out the ferry companies' timetables and tickets yourself on a tight afternoon.
The signature of the day
The torii, and the tide that decides it
Itsukushima Shrine and its great torii are built like a pier over the tidal flat, so the sea — not the tour, not the season, not the time of day you'd prefer — decides what you actually see. At about 250cm of tide or more the torii appears to float; below about 100cm you can walk out across the sand to it. Between those heights it stands in shallow water.
The chart shows one example day, 12 September 2026, not the day you book: tide times shift roughly fifty minutes later every day, and the tour's time on the island depends on your date and option. The Miyajima Tourist Association publishes a tide table by date on its tide info page, which is worth a look if the exact look of the torii matters more to you than the date.
- Early morningShin-Osaka / Kyoto
Two meeting points, one plan
On the Osaka and Kyoto plans, staff meet you at the departure station and hand over your round-trip shinkansen tickets. Your confirmation shows the meeting point and time for your option.
- MorningHiroshima
Off the bullet train
About ninety minutes west by shinkansen, then onto the waiting coach, which swings past Hiroshima Castle's moat on the way into the city centre without stopping.
- Mid-morningPeace Memorial Park
The Dome, then the museum
A walking visit to the Atomic Bomb Dome comes first, then the Peace Memorial Museum, with entry included and a guide narrating rather than leaving you to read every panel cold.
- MiddayFerry to Miyajima
Onto the water
After the included okonomiyaki lunch, the coach runs to the ferry terminal for the crossing to Miyajima — round-trip tickets are part of the booking, so there is no queue at a machine here either.
- AfternoonItsukushima Shrine
The torii, whatever the tide gives
The listed itinerary allows about an hour at the shrine and about an hour of free time on the island, and your booking confirms the plan. Whether the torii is afloat or walkable then depends on the tide on your date, so check the tide table the night before.
- End of dayHiroshima Station
The way home
On the Osaka and Kyoto plans, the day ends with the shinkansen back; on the Hiroshima plan, the tour ends when the bus returns to Hiroshima Station. The tour runs 8 to 12 hours depending on your plan.
How the day is run
How the day is run
Two cities, one shared route once the train reaches Hiroshima — the practical shape of the day, city by city.
Starting from Osaka
Your confirmation gives the meeting point and time at JR Shin-Osaka Station. Staff hand over your round-trip bullet-train tickets there and help you board; they don't ride the train with you.
Starting from Kyoto
Your confirmation gives the meeting point and time at JR Kyoto Station. The Kyoto plan also includes round-trip shinkansen tickets, handed over by staff at the station.
The shinkansen legs
On the Osaka and Kyoto plans, the shinkansen takes about an hour and a half each way, which is why the day can cover Hiroshima and Miyajima and still return the same day — most of the distance is covered at shinkansen speed, not by road.
Getting home
On the Osaka and Kyoto plans, the return shinkansen is set by the day's schedule rather than by how long anyone would like to linger at the shrine — worth knowing if you like one more slow lap of a place before leaving.

Ways to book the day
Find a date for your trip
Each way to run the Hiroshima and Miyajima day trip below is booked on GetYourGuide, so the seats and the price you see are live, not last week's cache.
Planning your day
Planning your day
Arrive before your meeting time
On the Osaka and Kyoto plans the shinkansen won't hold for a late arrival the way a coach might. Aim to be at your meeting point with ten minutes to spare, confirmation in hand.
Check the tide the night before
If the look of the torii matters to you as much as the day itself, look up the current Hiroshima Bay tide table before you sleep — the times move by about fifty minutes a day, so yesterday's table is not tomorrow's.
Pack for a long day
Comfortable shoes for the walk through Peace Park and around the shrine, a layer for the ferry crossing, and something to fill the shinkansen legs — this is a long day with very little downtime built in.
Decide what you want from your hour at the museum
The Peace Memorial Museum is dense; the museum's own audio guide alone lasts about 70 minutes. If you know you'll want longer with one exhibit than another, decide that before you arrive rather than mid-visit.

Hiroshima & Miyajima day trip questions
What is the Osaka/Kyoto Hiroshima and Miyajima bus tour with shinkansen ticket?
It is a guided day trip, 8 to 12 hours depending on your plan. You join in Osaka or Kyoto and take a round-trip shinkansen ride to Hiroshima, or join at Hiroshima Station without the train. A coach takes you through Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Museum, entry included), then a lunch of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, then the ferry to Miyajima and Itsukushima Shrine, entry included. The guide speaks English.
Will I see the torii floating on the water?
It depends on the tide on your date, not on the tour. The torii appears to float when the tide is about 250cm or more and becomes walkable when it drops below about 100cm; in between, it stands in shallow water. Check a current Hiroshima Bay tide table the night before if the exact look matters to you.
Is lunch and museum entry included?
Yes. A Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki lunch and entry to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum are both part of the booking, along with the Hiroshima coach, entry to Itsukushima Shrine and the return Miyajima ferry. The Osaka and Kyoto plans also include the round-trip shinkansen.
Where do I meet, and what time?
Your booking confirmation shows the meeting point and time for the option you choose: JR Shin-Osaka Station, JR Kyoto Station, or Hiroshima Station. Staff meet you at the departure station on the shinkansen plans and hand over your round-trip tickets.
How long is the day, and when do I get back?
The tour runs 8 to 12 hours depending on your plan. On the Osaka and Kyoto plans, the shinkansen sets the return; on the Hiroshima plan, the tour ends when the bus returns to Hiroshima Station. Check your exact times in your confirmation.
Is there a way to do it without the shinkansen?
Yes. The same tour has a version that starts at Hiroshima Station and doesn't include the shinkansen. It suits anyone already in Hiroshima, or who already holds a train ticket there.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Bookings through GetYourGuide are free to cancel up to 7 days before the tour, for a full refund.
